Welcome to our local school district News Report Page!
We just received update, on behalf of Superintendent, Bob Mistele:
Another record is broken as forty-eight seniors from the Los Gatos – Saratoga Union High School District were recognized today as Semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Program. Across the nation, 1.4 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The qualifying juniors represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The PSAT measures critical reading, math problem-solving and writing skills.
In spring 2016, these Semifinalists continue the path towards becoming a Finalist and obtaining one of the 8,000 National Merit Scholarships, totaling more than $32 million. They must have an outstanding academic record and SAT scores and be recommended by their high school principal. Ninety percent of Semifinalists become Finalists and more than 50 percent of Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the title “Merit Scholar.” The final application includes a student essay and information about their participation and leadership in school and community activities.
Superintendent Mistele commented,
“Our students excel in so many arenas, including academics, and these students represent the commitment to excellence that is part of the culture of our district. We congratulate them, their families and teachers wish them much success in this competition and future endeavors.”
